The McDonald Creek occurrence is located on McDonald Creek, approximately 1.8 kilometres south-southeast of Anderson Lake.

The area is underlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group). These have been intruded by quartz dioritic intrusives of the Eocene to Oligocene Mount Washington Plutonic Suite.

Locally, a 4 to 5 centimetre wide quartz-pyrite-chalcopyrite vein is hosted by basalts. The vein strikes north-south with the attitude apparently being controlled by sub-vertical joints. In 1989, grab sampling yielded values up to 6.9 grams per tonne gold, 224.0 grams per tonne silver, 0.235 per cent antimony, 0.3 per cent zinc and 1.9 per cent copper (Assessment Report 19081).

During 1986 through 1993, Westmin Resources completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical sampling and airborne and ground geophysical surveys on the area as the Ideal 1-9 and Harmony claims.
